I spent the last four days at ILMUNC as delegate of Kenya and got an Oustanding Delegate award! : )
Concerns/challenges I had before conference:
*not having enough research for Kenya as a country without nuclear power (I had to pull research from different African Union policies)
*not having enough resources as a country to propose globally effective solutions (I had to make many plans involving regional alliances etc)
*having a very idealistic country policy including several nuclear free zones that some countries did not agree with (I had to research strong precedents such as Pelindaba treaty and also supplement my ideas with detailed Confidence Building Measures to prove my solutions were grounded)
*also just having a bigger committee in general and being a single del again
I improved!:
*ability to negotiate successful! mergers
*leading a 30+ people bloc
*doing effective Q&A and defending my paper properly!
*spoke more to my advisors at our delegation dinner and got better understanding of how I can help my club's younger members (freshmen) progress in the future! including encouraging them to do highschool conferences
Fun times:
*doing chem after committee LOL
*going to the pretty Reading Market for breakfast with friends
*going to chinatown for dinner at...midnight....w/ my delegation
*(NOT so fun but VERY impactful) talking to my advisor about a close person to her that was homeless and discussing the problem of homelessness in big cities such as Philly (sometimes all that is needed is a bit compassion)
